At Benson View Dental Clinic, we believe that visiting the dentist should feel like coming home. Nestled in the heart of Nanaimo, BC, our practice has been built on a simple yet powerful foundation: treating every patient like family while delivering exceptional dental care that exceeds expectations.

Our Story

Benson View Dental was created with a simple goal: to provide modern, patient-focused dentistry in South Nanaimo.

Dr. Sean McCarthy and Dr. Anthony Chan have spent decades caring for patients across Vancouver Island. After years of practicing in the community, they partnered to build a clinic designed around comfortable care, clear communication, and modern technology.

The clinic is named after nearby Mount Benson — a place both doctors enjoy spending time outdoors and where the idea for their partnership first began to take shape.

Our journey has been shaped by the incredible people we’ve had the privilege to serve. From nervous first-time visitors who leave with confident smiles, to multi-generational families who trust us with their oral health year after year, each patient has helped us grow into the practice we are today.

General Dentist | Co-Founder, Benson View Dental

With nearly 20 years of experience, Dr. Sean McCarthy is known for his calm, caring, and thorough approach to family dentistry. Born and raised in Victoria, BC, he studied at UVic and UBC, and has spent much of his career serving the Nanaimo community — most recently as a trusted provider at Diver Lake Dental.  

Dr. McCarthy combines modern, preventive care with a strong focus on patient comfort and education. Dr. McCarthy has earned Diplomate status from the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM), the highest credential available for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. 

Outside of the clinic, you’ll find him trail running, scuba diving, and exploring the island with his family — including on Mount Benson, where the vision for the clinic’s partnership was first discussed.

Dr. Anthony Chan, DMD | General Dentist | Co-Founder, Benson View Dental

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Anthony Chan delivers calm, thorough care tailored to each patient’s long-term health. He combines modern digital tools with a patient-first philosophy.

Outside the clinic, he enjoys trail running on Mount Benson — where he and Dr. McCarthy first discussed forming a partnership that would become Benson View Dental.

We also understand that dental emergencies don’t follow business hours, which is why we make ourselves available when you need us most.

Booking the Appointment

The process starts by scheduling your visit. You can call the dental clinic, book online, or sometimes even walk in. At this stage, you’ll be asked for basic details, any specific concerns, and your preferred date and time.

Initial Check-In

When you arrive at the clinic, the front desk team will check you in. You may be asked to fill out forms about your medical and dental history. This ensures the dentist has all the information needed to provide safe and personalised care.

Examination & Cleaning

A dental hygienist or dentist will begin with a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth. X-rays may be taken if needed. Professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar, leaving your teeth fresh and polished. The dentist will then review your oral health and discuss any issues found.

Treatment Plan & Follow-Up

If any concerns are identified, the dentist will explain your treatment options and create a personalised care plan. You’ll also get tips for better oral hygiene at home. Finally, you can book your next check-up or treatment appointment before leaving.
